Toyota Sienna LE

Well went to a local autoshow yesterday so my wife could sit in and look at the various minivan models (dodge, honda, toyota). She liked the toyota the best. My thought was to go for a used one with lower miles. I have found plenty under 30K but they are only like 3K cheaper than buying a brand new one. So I have found a few 2012 LE's with the 3.5 V-6 in the color she likes (Gray Mica). Looks like Monday we may own a toyota as the 0% financing ends on the 3rd. Cant believe this is happening but I think it will be easier for her/us with 2 kids (power sliding doors main plus) over the Tahoe, she has successfully convinced me. I am not trading the Tahoe in going to try and sell it myself (if you are looking its for sale check out the for sale thread).

Any last words before we make this leap? Any helpful hints? Thanks!

A mini van? YUCK! And a Crapota on top of that :( Don't do it man, you will regret it. Clobber her over the head for her own good!

Yea thats what I thought until I started thinking of functionality. I still have my truck so I dont care. Hopefully will have a camaro this summer too. It wont be my DD.

OK, JMO here, but Toyleta!? Really!? We had 3 of them 20-25 years ago, and they were the worst ownership experience of any vehicles we've ever had, and we've had a few over the years. So if you make that move, all I can say is, good luck with it, and don't let go of your truck, Man!

Basing your opinion of Toyotas on experiences from 20+ years ago is borderline insane...

Toyota makes a solid car, I'm sure you and the wife will be happy with it. I'm not really sold on it being more handy for kids as it's still a huge vehicle with a high lift-in height to place the kiddos in their seats but if that's what makes her happy... (hell, I'm single and even I know how that all works ). Plenty of my friends with kids managed to survive the first few years with trucks and SUVs but I guess the van will probably be handy. Be prepared to be the kiddie taxi though.

Like I said previously she didnt like Dodge (same as the T&C). As far as foreign vehicle comment we live in a global society (Sienna is built in my home state so that is sorta a plus). I dont necessarily like it. If GM still made a minivan I would be buying theirs for sure but they dont.

I thought the same way until we tested it out at the autoshow (having all kinds of vehicles there was great). The lil one (tall for his age he is already 38" at 2 yrs old) had the easiest time getting into the minvan seats. Even with the running boards on the SUV's it is easier for him to get in, partly because the door is out of the way and partly because the floor board is lower (seat not as high up)

Well it's her vehicle, I just can't understand what is more practical about having a minivan over a Tahoe.. Doors are doors, sliding or fold open.. :dunno:

What dont you understand? The Tahoe doors do not open automatically like a van door does. Overall makes it much easier in many aspects. I have to ask do you have kids?

Hey Ryan, I've been following the truck forums since buying a new Silverado in 2000. I seem to remember this kid working I think at Home Depot and going to college. I think you used to practically sleep in your truck. Now I read you have 2 kids and your looking at minivans. Toyota even. Man your really showing your age here. LOL.

I have 2 kids they are now 17 and 14, we have had trucks since they were little. I am not telling anyone what they need but I nor the wife ever had any problems. We had regular cabs, extended cabs no back doors, and finally extended with back doors, hell for awhile we had an extended cab s-10. So I guess it all comes down to what you want.

I've got a 2004 Sienna XLE. That thing is still rock solid. Has had no maintenance issues. Has lots of room and the seats can swapped around in different configs easily. It's a great vehicle. Congrats Ryan

Ryan buy what you want. Because, if Mama is not happy, then no one will be happy ;) Sounds like her mind is made up..

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
